Details: About this book: (artist's statement) “evidence” was designed and printed to be altered. The covers are hand-applied distressed cotton. Each book was buried for a period of time and recovered, cleaned, restored by the artist and finally packaged together with the debris and ‘evidence’ visible through the transparent bag. Each book is the result of a unique journey and represents a personalization of abstract social issues. The poem, “Capacocha”, juxtaposes ancient mummified child sacrifices with today’s child abductions. The poem has been described as “disturbing, but necessary to read”. My goal with “evidence” was to create a book that was equally compelling, something that haunts afterwards. Readers have to get their hands dirty in the process of reading this book, in the same way that we as a society have ‘dirty hands’, being complicit with the reality described in the poem. |
