![]() Additional Services: Melissa has worked widely in Sales & Marketing, Marketing Design, Book Production, and Book Design. Her education and work experience exemplify a unique and seemingly disparate set of skills. Her understanding of sales & marketing, as well as art & design make her a valuable team member, with much to offer. Melissa began her creative life as a writing student at the University of Michigan. Ultimately, she ended up involved with Eastern Michigan University’s Cellar Roots: first as assistant editor, and later as Editor-in-Chief. This experience drastically shifted Melissa’s creative energies from writing to design. She began exploring non-traditional book design in 2005. My job is to try to serve it to the best of my ability, which is never good enough, but all I can do is listen to it, do what it tells me, and collaborate."Madeleine L'Engle About the Artist, Melissa Duckworth Melissa believes that the structure and design of the book, when equal to the quality of the writing itself, yields an object greater than the sum of its parts: an object which people can interact meaningfully with, creating an even more visceral literary experience. Melissa holds an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield, MI. She has been involved with books for over 10 years, first as a poet and author, then as an editor and publication manager, and finally as a graphic designer and book artist.
